It's extremely exciting to be able to do this, as I often want to be able to drop in specific quotes as I brainstorm. I am using the current version of Zotero Standalone (5.0.48) with Zotfile and wanted to confirm that it is possible to extract annotations from my PDFs and Copy/Paste them into Freeplane, retaining the hyperlink. Often times I have a number of different citations or papers in my mind that I would like to reference as I work, similar to the use case offered by I wanted to mention two things to add to the discussion: I find Zotero to be incredibly useful for organizing my citations, but very much appreciate the freedom of Freeplane for exploring ideas. I am a PhD student and a heavy user of Zotero Standalone, but a new user of Freeplane. Thanks for sharing your experience with using it. I'm still playing around with Zotero's capabilities, but I'll go ahead and ask: Have you found a way to easily incorporate all the metadata information captured by Zotero back into Freeplane? Or, as an alternative, have you found a way to link Freeplane back to the snapshot/metadata in the Zotero database? Perhaps your original question was in this same area and my ignorance of the product didn't allow me to "see."Īmazing tool. I also like making visual connections with thinking about a problem back to the source and Freeplane allows me to do this easily having the bits separated in two different applications interferes with this need.

I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate research captured in Zotero back into Freeplane, but keep coming back to the troubling question of "why?" The best answer I can come up with is that I want to house all information processing about a particular topic under one "roof" rather than have the research in one place and the thinking about it in another. Zotero quickly and efficiently makes sense of web research in a single step and it looks like to me has supplanted one of my big use cases for Freeplane. I must admit that I'm a little bummed by this. Turns out, the add-on provides exactly what I was describing in a recent post. To: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -url "%1" Then you need to change just one register key: įrom: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Zotero Standalone\zotero.exe" -url "%1"

Just after setting the protocol handler, discussed in this thread, the link from Freeplane through Zotero that trigger the PDF Reader is established.Ībout setting the protocol handler, there is a broader discussion here: Īctually, I realized it is easier to set the protocol handler if you have the standalone (.exe) of Zotero already installed in your system. By clicking the link in Freeplane the PDF Reader will be opened in that position. Then just copy and paste the extracted highlights / annotations into Freeplane.Įach annotation will be converted into a node with a link to the very exact PDF position.
